What is udimm?

Unregistered DIMM (UDIMM) is a type of memory module used in desktop computers and workstations. UDIMMs are also known as unbuffered DIMMs, and they are less expensive than other types of memory like registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) and load-reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs).

UDIMMs rely on the memory controller to manage memory traffic, as opposed to RDIMMs and LRDIMMs that come equipped with additional buffer chips to manage the signal. This makes UDIMMs less expensive but also less efficient at handling large volumes of data.

UDIMMs are available in DDR3 and DDR4 form factors and typically have a maximum memory capacity of 16GB per module. They are most commonly used in home computers and gaming systems where cost is a primary concern, and performance is not a critical factor.

Overall, UDIMMs are a more affordable option for desktop computing, with slightly lower performance than RDIMMs and LRDIMMs, but they are still sufficient for most common computing tasks.
