What is va-145?

VA-145 was a United States Navy attack squadron which was established on August 1, 1955, as a result of the reorganization of carrier aviation squadrons. The squadron was also known as the "Swordsmen" and operated various aircraft types during its existence, including the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, the Vought F-8 Crusader, and the North American A-5 Vigilante.

VA-145 participated in various deployments and combat operations, including the Vietnam War, where it operated from various aircraft carriers such as the USS Ranger, USS Oriskany, and USS Kitty Hawk. The squadron was involved in numerous missions such as close air support, bombing runs, and reconnaissance.

In 1975, VA-145 was disestablished due to budget cuts and a reduction in the number of carrier-based squadrons. The squadron's legacy continues through its alumni association, which holds annual reunions to commemorate the squadron's service and its members.
