What is vdgs?

VdG stands for Viola da Gamba, which is a stringed instrument from the Renaissance and Baroque period. It is played with a bow and has six strings that are tuned in a similar way to an acoustic guitar, but with a lower pitch range.

The Viola da Gamba was very popular in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries, especially in France and England. It was often used to accompany singing, but also as a solo instrument.

Unlike the modern cello, the Viola da Gamba has a flat back, sloping shoulders, and is played while seated with the instrument resting between the legs.

Today, the Viola da Gamba is still played by musicians who specialize in early music and historical performance. It is also sometimes used in modern film scores to evoke the Renaissance or Baroque period.
