What is verga?

Giovanni Verga (1840-1922) was an Italian writer and one of the most important authors of Italian realism. He was born in Catania, Sicily, and spent most of his life there. His works often focused on the lives and struggles of the Sicilian peasantry, and he was especially interested in the social and economic conditions of the working class.

Verga's most famous works include "Cavalleria Rusticana," a novella about a love triangle set in a small Sicilian town, and "I Malavoglia," a novel that explores the lives of a poor fishing family. He also wrote several other novels, plays, and short stories.

Verga's writing is known for its realism and attention to detail, and he often used the Sicilian dialect in his works to capture the local flavor and customs of the region. His works have been translated into many languages and continue to be studied and admired today.
