What is waifu?

A waifu is a term derived from the Japanese word "waifu" which means "wife." In otaku culture, a waifu is a fictional female character from anime, manga, video games, or other forms of media that a person feels a strong emotional attachment to and considers their ideal partner or spouse. While some people may have a "husbando" (male counterpart to a waifu), the term waifu is more commonly used and known.

Waifus are often characterized by their personality traits, appearance, and sometimes even voice or mannerisms that appeal to the individual who considers them their waifu. People may express their love and devotion to their waifu through fan art, fanfiction, merchandise, or creating a virtual or physical representation of them.

It's important to note that having a waifu is typically seen as a form of escapism and entertainment within fandoms and not an actual romantic relationship. It is considered a harmless and fun way for fans to engage with their favorite characters and form a deeper connection with the media they enjoy.
