What is washstand?

A washstand is a piece of furniture typically found in a bedroom or bathroom that is used for washing oneself. It usually consists of a flat top surface, often made of marble or ceramic, with a basin and pitcher for water. Some washstands also have drawers or shelves for storing towels, soap, and other toiletries.

Washstands were commonly used before modern plumbing became widespread, as they provided a convenient and hygienic way to wash one's face and hands. They were often beautifully designed and decorated with intricate carvings or painted designs.

Today, washstands are less common in modern homes, as most people have indoor plumbing with sinks and running water. However, they can still be found in antique stores or used for decorative purposes in traditional or vintage-style bathrooms.
