What is winces?

A wince is a facial expression that indicates pain, discomfort, or unease. It involves the tightening of muscles around the eyes and mouth and sometimes a brief closure of the eyes. It can be a spontaneous reaction to physical pain or psychological discomfort like embarrassment, fear, or guilt. Winces are often accompanied by a verbal expression, such as a groan or a muttered curse. They are a normal and natural response to unpleasant stimuli. Some people may have a higher pain threshold and hence tend to wince less than others. Others may feel the need to suppress their winces to avoid displaying vulnerability or weakness in front of others.
