Xenon hexafluoride, XeF6, is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure. It is a rare and highly reactive compound, considered to be one of the most powerful fluorinating agents known.
XeF6 is formed by the reaction of xenon gas with fluorine gas at high temperatures (300-400°C). It is used in the synthesis of various fluorine-containing compounds, and also as an oxidizing agent in organic and inorganic chemistry.
Xenon hexafluoride is highly toxic and corrosive, and should be handled with extreme caution. It reacts violently with water, releasing toxic and corrosive hydrofluoric acid.
Due to its highly reactive nature, XeF6 is not commonly encountered outside of specialized chemical laboratories.
