What is xm177?

The XM177, also known as the Colt Commando, was a carbine version of the M16 rifle developed for special operations forces during the Vietnam War. It had a shorter barrel length of 10 inches compared to the standard M16's 20 inches, making it more maneuverable in confined spaces.

The XM177 was designed to be lightweight and compact, making it ideal for close-quarters combat situations. It was equipped with a collapsible stock, which allowed for easier storage and transportation.

The XM177 also featured a flash hider designed to reduce muzzle flash and a sound suppressor to reduce noise signature. These features made it well-suited for use by special forces units operating in urban environments and conducting stealth missions.

The XM177 was eventually replaced by the M4 carbine in the 1990s, which offered similar compactness and improved performance. However, the XM177 remains an iconic weapon associated with special forces operations during the Vietnam War era.
