What is yaghnobi?

Yaghnobi is a language spoken by the Yaghnobi people, who are an ethnic group living in the Yaghnob River valley of Tajikistan. It is a member of the Northwestern Iranian language family, which includes other languages such as Kurdish, Balochi, and Persian.

Yaghnobi is considered to be an endangered language, with only around 12,000 speakers. It is also a highly complex language with a rich literary tradition dating back to the 8th century.

The Yaghnobi people have a distinct culture and lifestyle, with traditions that have survived for centuries. They are known for their traditional embroidery, music, and dance, as well as their agricultural practices that rely on the local ecosystem.

Despite their isolation, the Yaghnobi people have faced many challenges over the years, including Soviet collectivization, forced resettlement, and modernization. However, with the help of government and international support, they have managed to preserve their unique language and culture.
