What is yamam?

Yamam is an elite counter-terrorism and special operations unit within the Israeli Border Police. Formed in the late 1970s, Yamam is responsible for carrying out high-risk operations such as hostage rescues, counter-terrorism missions, and arrests of suspects involved in violent crimes.

The unit is highly trained in close-quarters combat, sniping, explosives, and intelligence gathering. Members of Yamam undergo rigorous physical and psychological training to prepare them for the most dangerous situations.

Yamam has been involved in numerous high-profile operations, including the rescue of hostages from airliners, raids on terrorist safe houses, and operations against Palestinian militant groups.

The unit's motto is "Anytime, Anywhere," reflecting their readiness to respond to threats at a moment's notice. Yamam is considered one of the most effective counter-terrorism units in the world and is often called upon to assist in operations outside of Israel.
