What is yeomra?

Yeomra is a figure from Korean mythology who is known as the king of the underworld and judge of the dead. He is responsible for determining the fate of each soul based on their moral deeds during life. Yeomra is often depicted as a stern and impartial judge, who is assisted by a team of assistants including a recorder and an executioner. While his role is primarily to judge and sentence the dead, he also has the power to grant mercy and allow some souls to be reincarnated rather than condemned to eternal suffering. Yeomra is a central figure in many Korean religious traditions and is often worshipped alongside other deities and ancestors in temples and shrines.
