A zorse is a hybrid animal resulting from the crossbreeding of a zebra and a horse. The zebra parent can be either a stallion or a mare, but the horse parent is usually a mare.
Zorses inherit characteristics from both parents. They typically have stripes, but the pattern and extent of the striping varies greatly depending on the zebra parent. The stripes are usually most prominent on the legs and sometimes the body. The base color of a zorse usually comes from the horse parent.
Zorses are generally sterile, similar to mules (horse-donkey hybrids), due to the different number of chromosomes in the parental species which prevents proper meiosis.
The purpose of breeding a zorse is usually for novelty. While zorses may be stronger than horses, they may also inherit the unpredictable temperament of the zebra.
