Zuniceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsian dinosaur that lived in what is now North America during the Late Cretaceous period, around 90 million years ago. It was a relatively small ceratopsian, measuring about 4.5 meters (15 feet) in length and weighing around 450 kilograms (1,000 pounds).
Zuniceratops had a short frill at the back of its head and a small nose horn on its snout. It had a beak-like structure at the front of its mouth for cropping vegetation, as well as rows of teeth for chewing. Like other ceratopsians, it walked on all fours and likely lived in herds for protection against predators.
The first fossil of Zuniceratops was discovered in New Mexico in 1996, and it has since been found in several other locations in the southwestern United States. It is believed to be one of the earliest known ceratopsians and is considered an important transitional species in the evolution of the ceratopsians.
Overall, Zuniceratops is an important and fascinating dinosaur that provides valuable insights into the diversity and evolution of ceratopsian dinosaurs during the Late Cretaceous period.
