What is t-square?

A T-square is a technical drawing instrument used primarily as a guide for drawing horizontal lines on a drafting table. It consists of a long, straight blade and a shorter "head" that is fixed at a 90-degree angle to the blade.

  • Function: Its primary function is to provide a reliable straight edge parallel to the top or bottom edge of the drafting table, allowing drafters to draw accurate horizontal lines. It can also be used as a base against which other tools, like a set square, can be placed to draw vertical and angled lines.

  • Construction: T-squares are typically made of wood, metal, or plastic. The head of the T-square is designed to slide smoothly along the edge of the drafting table.

  • Use with other tools: It's often used in conjunction with other drafting tools like triangles (set squares) and protractors for creating more complex drawings.

  • Decline: With the advent of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, the use of T-squares has significantly declined.
