What is a-kasserne?

A-kasserne are unemployment insurance funds in Denmark. They are private non-profit organizations that provide financial assistance to their members in case of involuntary unemployment. The purpose of these funds is to offer a safety net for their members and support them in their job search.

A-kasserne typically require their members to pay a monthly fee or membership fee. In return, members are entitled to receive unemployment benefits for a period of up to two years. The amount of the benefit is calculated based on the individual's previous income and the length of their membership with the fund.

There are more than twenty different A-kasserne in Denmark, each catering to specific industries or professions. Members must choose an A-kasse that is relevant to their line of work and sign up for membership.

A-kasserne also offer various other services to their members, such as career counseling, training and education, and legal assistance for employment-related issues. They are an integral part of the Danish welfare system and provide vital support to those who find themselves out of work.
