Afobaka is a town located in the Brokopondo district of Suriname. It is situated on the Suriname River and is home to a large hydroelectric dam, known as the Afobaka Dam. The dam was built in the 1960s to provide electricity to the bauxite mining town of Moengo. Today, it remains a key source of power for Suriname. The town is also known for its proximity to the Brokopondo Reservoir, which is popular for fishing and water sports. There are several small communities located in the surrounding rainforest, and the area is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.
