What is agathyrsi?

Agathyrsi or Agathyrsae was an ancient tribe that inhabited the region of Transylvania in central Europe. They are believed to have been of Thracian origin and were mentioned by ancient Greek historian Herodotus in the 5th century BCE. The Agathyrsi were a warlike people and frequently raided their neighboring tribes. They were also known for their horsemanship and breeding of horses. The Agathyrsi had a warrior elite that wore bronze helmets and carried long spears into battle. They worshipped a deity called Bendis who was associated with hunting and the moon. The Agathyrsi were eventually assimilated into the Dacian culture, a group of Indo-European tribes who lived in the region. Today, there are no known direct descendants of the Agathyrsi tribe.
