What is aldub?

Aldub is a popular loveteam in the Philippines composed of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. Their on-screen chemistry and romantic storyline, which started on the noontime variety show "Eat Bulaga," captured the hearts of Filipino viewers both in the Philippines and abroad. The tandem was coined from the combination of their character names, "Alden" and "Yaya Dub" (Maine's character on the show). Aldub became a trending topic on social media and their fans (called AlDub Nation) eagerly anticipated their every appearance on TV. They went on to star in movies and TV shows together, and their popularity continued to soar. Alden and Maine have since pursued individual projects but remain beloved figures in Philippine showbiz.
