What is bajoloche?

Bajoloche is a traditional Mayan celebration that takes place in the town of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, Guatemala. It is celebrated every year on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

During Bajoloche, the town comes alive with colorful decorations, music, dancing, and food. People gather in the town square to participate in religious ceremonies, watch traditional dances, and sample local dishes such as tamales and atol.

One of the main highlights of Bajoloche is the dance of the Túy Trok, a traditional Mayan dance that involves participants wearing masks and colorful costumes. The dance tells the story of the struggle between good and evil, with the Túy Trok representing the forces of darkness.

Bajoloche is a time for locals to honor their ancestors and celebrate their cultural heritage. It is a unique and vibrant festival that showcases the rich traditions of the Mayan people in Guatemala.
