What is becquerel?

Henri Becquerel was a French physicist who was born on December 15, 1852, in Paris, France. He was a prominent researcher in the field of radioactivity and discovered radioactivity in 1896. Henri Becquerel was a member of the Académie des Sciences and also of the International Committee on Weights and Measures.

Becquerel, together with Marie Curie and Pierre Curie, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 for their work on radioactivity. They were the first Nobel laureates in physics to receive the award.

In 1908 Becquerel became a professor of physics at the Museum of Natural History in Paris. He continued his research on radioactivity until his death on August 25, 1908, in Le Croisic, France.
