Belbek is a military airfield located in the Crimean Peninsula, which is currently controlled by Russia. The airfield was built by the Soviet Union in the 1950s and was used by the Ukrainian Air Force until 2014. During the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, the airfield was taken over by Russian troops. In 2015, the airfield was re-opened and is now used by the Russian Air Force for military operations. In recent years, Belbek has gained media attention due to ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia over the annexation of Crimea.
