What is boussoles?

Boussoles, also known as compasses, are instruments used primarily for navigation and direction finding. They consist of a magnetized needle that is suspended within a housing or casing, which is typically marked with cardinal directions, such as North, East, South, and West. When the compass is held level, the needle aligns itself with the Earth's magnetic field, enabling the user to determine the direction of travel or to orientate a map. Modern compasses may also include additional features, such as sighting devices, adjustable declination, or GPS capabilities. Boussoles can be used for a variety of applications, from outdoor recreation and exploration to military and scientific purposes.
