What is braying?

Braying refers to the loud, harsh, and distinct sound that is made by donkeys and some other animals in the equidae family, such as zebras and mules. It is a unique vocalization that is produced by a combination of air being expelled forcefully through the animal's vocal cords and the vibration of their larynx.

Donkeys bray for various reasons, including to communicate with other animals, express their emotions, and establish their territory. Male donkeys also bray to attract females during the mating season.

Although braying is often associated with annoyance or humor, it is an essential means of communication for these animals and serves as an indicator of their well-being and social status within their group.
