What is celulasa?

Cellulase is an enzyme that breaks down cellulose, a complex carbohydrate that makes up the cell walls of plants. It is produced by fungi, bacteria, and some animals, including termites. Cellulase is important in industrial processes such as paper manufacturing, textile processing, and biofuel production, as well as in the digestion of plant material by animals. The enzyme works by hydrolyzing the glycosidic bonds that hold the cellulose fibers together, releasing glucose molecules that can be used for energy. There are several different types of cellulase, each with a specific function in breaking down cellulose.
