What is conflickers?

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup, and Kido, is a notorious computer worm that emerged in 2008. It spread rapidly by targeting vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows operating systems, particularly Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Conficker is able to infect computers through various means, including exploiting network vulnerabilities, weak passwords, and removable storage devices. Once a computer is infected, Conficker can disable security software, steal sensitive information, and turn the infected machine into a botnet that can be controlled remotely by hackers.

Conficker gained notoriety for its ability to quickly infect millions of computers worldwide, causing widespread disruption and financial losses. It was estimated that at its peak, Conficker infected millions of computers and was one of the largest botnets in history.

Despite efforts by security researchers and industry experts to contain and eradicate Conficker, it still poses a threat to computer systems that are not properly secured or updated. To protect against Conficker and similar threats, it is important to keep operating systems and security software up to date, use strong passwords, and avoid opening suspicious email attachments or visiting malicious websites.
