What is curette?

A curette is a surgical instrument that is used for scraping or excising biological tissue in surgical procedures. It typically consists of a handle and a sharp, spoon-shaped tip that is designed for scraping away tissue from the walls of the body cavities or for more delicate work such as curettage of the lining of the uterus in procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C).

Curettes are commonly used in gynecology, obstetrics, orthopedic, dental, and dermatological surgeries. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes depending on the specific use and the area of the body they are intended for.

Curettes are typically made of stainless steel or other durable materials that can be sterilized for reuse in medical procedures. Some curettes are disposable and are meant for single-use only to prevent the spread of infections.
