Demisexuality is a sexual orientation where individuals only experience sexual attraction after forming an emotional connection with someone. Demisexual people may have a hard time getting sexually aroused unless they experience an emotional bond with their partner. For some, this connection may take weeks or even months to form.
Demisexuality is different from celibacy or asexuality. Demisexual people do experience sexual desire, but they need a deeper level of emotional intimacy to feel attracted to someone.
The term "demisexual" was first coined in 2006 by an online community of asexual activists. The community aimed to create awareness and visibility around the idea of romantic attraction being separate from sexual attraction.
Like other sexual orientations, demisexuality is a valid identity and should be respected and accepted without judgment.
