What is ec-4?

EC-4 is an abbreviation for Early Childhood-Grade 4 Educator Certification. It is a certification program offered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to certify teachers who wish to teach in the early childhood education sector. EC-4 certification covers five content areas, including:

  1. English Language Arts and Reading
  2. Mathematics
  3. Science
  4. Social Studies
  5. Fine Arts, Health, and Physical Education

To be eligible for EC-4 certification, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, complete a teacher preparation program, and pass the appropriate certification exams. With EC-4 certification, teachers can work in public and private schools, as well as childcare centers, preschools, and Head Start programs. It is important to note that Texas also requires all certified teachers to complete continuing education courses to maintain their certification.
