What is enby?

Enby, short for "non-binary," is an umbrella term for gender identities that fall outside the traditional gender binary of male and female. Individuals who identify as enby may experience their gender as being neither entirely male nor entirely female, as a combination of both, or as something entirely different.

Key aspects of understanding enby identities include:

  • Gender Identity: Enby is a gender identity, separate from sex assigned at birth or sexual orientation.

  • Gender Expression: Enby individuals express their gender in various ways, ranging from traditionally masculine or feminine to androgynous or something else.

  • Pronouns: Enby people may use they/them pronouns, he/him pronouns, she/her pronouns, or other neopronouns. It's essential to respect and use the pronouns an individual prefers.

  • Diversity: There is significant diversity within the enby community. Some enby individuals may identify as genderfluid, agender, bigender, or with other more specific terms.

  • Acceptance and Respect: It's crucial to respect enby individuals' identities and choices, avoid misgendering them, and use their correct names and pronouns.
