What is etoys?

etoys is a visual programming environment for creating and playing games, simulations, and interactive media. Developed by Alan Kay and his team at the Viewpoints Research Institute, etoys is based on the Smalltalk programming language and was originally designed for children to explore and experiment with programming concepts.

etoys offers a wide range of tools and objects that users can use to create interactive projects, including graphics, sounds, animations, and programming blocks. It also includes a built-in media player and a set of educational activities that teach programming concepts in a fun and engaging way.

etoys is free and open source software that runs on multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. It has been translated into many languages and is used by educators, students, and hobbyists around the world.
