What is faering?

Faering is a traditional wooden boat used for fishing and transportation in the Faroe Islands. It typically has a sleek design with a pointed bow and stern, and is constructed from overlapping planks of wood that are fastened together with iron nails. The boat is small, with a length of about 16 to 20 feet, and can carry up to four people at a time. Faerings were traditionally rowed, using oars that were often passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, some faerings are equipped with small outboard motors. These boats can still be seen in use today in the Faroe Islands, and are often used for leisure activities such as fishing and pleasure boating.
