What is geid?

GeID (Generic Event ID) is a standardized identifier used for tracking events across different systems and platforms. Its primary purpose is to provide a unique, persistent, and consistent way to refer to a specific event, regardless of where or how it is logged or processed. This helps in correlating related data, analyzing event patterns, and streamlining incident response.

Key aspects of GeID include:

  • Uniqueness: Each event should be assigned a unique GeID.
  • Persistence: The GeID should remain constant throughout the event's lifecycle.
  • Correlation: The GeID enables relating disparate event data for comprehensive analysis.
  • Format: While not rigidly defined, GeIDs often use a standard format such as UUIDs (Universally Unique Identifiers) to ensure uniqueness.

Its benefits include improved data correlation, enhanced incident response, and streamlined log analysis.
