What is glycidylmethacrylate?

Glycidylmethacrylate (GMA) is a monomer used in the production of various polymers and copolymers. It is a colorless, clear, and liquid material with a low viscosity that is soluble in water and many organic solvents. GMA is produced through the reaction of methacrylic acid with epichlorohydrin.

GMA is widely used in the manufacture of adhesives, coatings, and resins. It is known for its ability to improve the adhesion and durability of adhesives and coatings on a variety of surfaces. It is also used as a reactive diluent in the formulation of UV-curable resins.

In addition to its use in polymer production, GMA is used in the synthesis of various chemical intermediates and pharmaceuticals. It is also used as a crosslinking agent in the production of ion-exchange resins and as a reagent in the modification of proteins.

However, GMA poses some health risks as it is classified as a category 2 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Proper handling, storage and disposal of GMA are therefore important to minimize exposure and protect workers and the environment.
