What is haematom?

A haematoma is a localized collection of blood outside of blood vessels, usually due to trauma or injury to an area. It can occur just under the skin, in organs, muscles, or other tissues. Symptoms may include swelling, pain, and bruising. Depending on the size and location of the haematoma, treatment options include rest, ice, compression, elevation, or surgical drainage. It is important to seek medical attention if the haematoma is large or causing severe pain or other symptoms. In some cases, haematomas can lead to complications such as infections or reduced blood flow to surrounding tissues.
