What is hungover?

A hungover is a state of discomfort, headache, fatigue, and nausea that occurs after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol. It is caused by the toxic byproducts produced by the liver as it metabolizes alcohol. Some of the common symptoms of a hangover are headache, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, dehydration, nausea or vomiting, fatigue, and irritability. Though there are popular hangover remedies such as drinking coffee, taking pain relievers, or drinking fluids, the only real cure for a hangover is time, rest, and rehydration. It is always recommended to drink alcohol in moderation to avoid such unpleasant after-effects and the potential long-term health consequences.
