What is janaaza?

Janaaza, also known as Janaze ki Namaz or funeral prayer, is a Muslim funeral ritual performed after the death of a Muslim. The Janaaza is an obligatory duty upon all Muslims who have completed the age of puberty and is usually performed inside a mosque.

The Janaaza involves reciting the funeral prayer in a congregational manner in which the Imam leads the prayer and attendees follow in prayer. The prayer has a set structure consisting of four takbeers (raising of hands) and recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha, followed by a supplication for the deceased.

The purpose of the Janaaza is to seek forgiveness and mercy for the deceased and to pray for their peaceful transition into the afterlife. It is also considered a way for the living to show respect and honor for the deceased's life and to provide comfort to their loved ones.

There are specific guidelines for the Janaaza prayer, including the preparation of the body, the washing and shrouding of the deceased, and the number of attendees required for the congregational prayer.

The Janaaza is an important aspect of Islamic funeral tradition and is seen as an essential act of compassion and respect for the deceased.
