What is juco?

JUCO stands for Junior College, also commonly referred to as Community College. These are two-year post-secondary institutions primarily found in the United States.

  • Academics: JUCOs offer a variety of academic programs, including associate degrees (Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, etc.) and certificate programs. Students often attend JUCO to complete general education requirements before transferring to a four-year university.

  • Athletics: JUCOs are also well-known for their athletic programs. They provide opportunities for student-athletes to develop their skills and gain exposure to four-year college recruiters. JUCO athletics can be a viable pathway to a scholarship at a larger university.

  • Affordability: Tuition at JUCOs is generally significantly lower than at four-year colleges and universities, making them a more affordable option for many students.

  • Open Enrollment: Many JUCOs have open enrollment policies, meaning that anyone with a high school diploma or GED can attend.

  • Transfer: A primary goal for many JUCO students is to transfer to a four-year university to complete their bachelor's degree. Articulation agreements between JUCOs and universities can help ensure a smooth transfer process.
