What is kalamae?

Kalamae is a traditional Filipino delicacy that originated from the Visayas region. It is made from a combination of glutinous rice powder, coconut milk, and brown sugar that is shaped into small rectangles or balls. Some versions of kalamae also include peanuts, cashews, or sesame seeds for added texture. The mixture is cooked over low heat until it thickens and becomes sticky. The finished product has a sweet and nutty flavor and a chewy texture. Kalamae is often served as a dessert or snack and can be found in local markets and delicacy stores all over the Philippines.
