What is kamounia?

Kamounia is a traditional Tunisian dish made with lamb or beef and flavored with cumin, garlic, and tomato paste. The meat is slow-cooked until tender and then served with bread. It is usually eaten during Ramadan as a hearty meal to break the fast. Kamounia is also popular in Algeria, Morocco, and Libya with slight variations in ingredients and preparation. The name kamounia comes from the Tunisian Arabic word "kamoun" which means cumin.
