What is konohanasakuyahime?

Konohanasakuyahime (木花咲耶姫) is a Shinto goddess of fire, specifically the deity of the Sakurajima volcano in Kagoshima, Japan. She is also known as Konohananosakuyahime-no-kami, or simply Sakuya.

According to legend, Konohanasakuyahime is the daughter of the god of the heavens, and was born from a fiery blossom on the summit of Mount Fuji. She is said to have the power to control fire, especially that which comes from volcanoes.

Konohanasakuyahime is often depicted as a beautiful woman with long hair, wearing a flowing red robe. She is closely associated with the sakura (cherry blossom) tree and is often portrayed holding a branch of the tree or standing near one.

Many people in Japan worship Konohanasakuyahime as a symbol of fertility and good luck. She is also considered the guardian deity of women and childbirth, and is often invoked by women seeking safe and healthy pregnancies.

Konohanasakuyahime is still venerated in Shinto rituals today, and she remains an important figure in Japanese mythology and culture.
