What is litescribe?

Litescribe is a technology used for burning images and labels directly onto optical disks such as CDs and DVDs. It uses a non-contact laser to etch the label or image onto a special coating that is already present on the surface of the disk. The process is time-consuming and requires a special Litescribe-enabled disk drive and compatible software. Litescribe technology was first introduced in 2004 by Hewlett-Packard and has been used by other companies such as Philips and Sony. The technology has since been largely replaced by newer, more efficient labeling methods such as inkjet printing and thermal printing.
