What is mariposite?

Mariposite is a type of metamorphic rock that is primarily composed of a green mineral known as serpentine, with white to pale green mica (muscovite) as well as other minerals such as quartz, calcite, and albite. It is recognized for its attractive green and white color combination, with shimmering mica flakes that give the appearance of butterfly wings, hence the name "mariposite" which is derived from the Spanish word for butterfly, "mariposa".

Mariposite is commonly found in California, particularly in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is often used as a decorative stone in jewelry-making, as well as in ornamental carvings and sculptural pieces. It is also sometimes used in construction and landscaping applications.

Metaphysically, mariposite is believed to have grounding and calming properties, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety. It is also said to enhance decision-making and problem-solving abilities, as well as promote harmony and balance.
