What is moreso?

Moreso (sometimes written as "more so") is an adverb that means "to a greater extent" or "even more." It's used to intensify a previous statement or comparison. It essentially emphasizes that something is true to a larger degree than what was previously mentioned.

For example:

  • "He was tired, but moreso emotionally." This means he was even more tired emotionally than physically.
  • "The book was interesting, and moreso insightful." This means the book was insightful to an even greater extent than it was interesting.

The use of moreso can sometimes be considered slightly formal, but it is a perfectly acceptable and useful word for conveying emphasis and degree. Its correctness and usage patterns are frequently discussed in contexts relating to grammar and style. Using "more so" instead of moreso is also acceptable and often preferred depending on context.
