What is nahash?

Nahash is a biblical figure mentioned in the Old Testament. He was the king of the Ammonites, a group of people who lived near the Israelites. Nahash is mentioned in the Book of Samuel, where he besieges the town of Jabesh-Gilead and offers to make a treaty with the inhabitants under the condition that he gouge out their right eyes as a sign of submission.

The people of Jabesh-Gilead ask for a week to consider Nahash's offer, and during that time, they send messengers to King Saul of Israel for help. Saul leads his army to Jabesh-Gilead and defeats Nahash and the Ammonites, saving the people of the town from having their eyes gouged out.

The story of Nahash is often interpreted as an example of the cruelty and oppression that can result from tyrannical rulers. It also serves as a demonstration of the importance of unity and solidarity among people facing oppression.
