What is okresy?

Okresy are administrative divisions in the Czech Republic, similar to counties or districts in other countries. There are currently 76 okresy in the country, each one consisting of several municipalities. The okres is governed by an okresní úřad (district authority), headed by an okresní hejtman (district governor). The main responsibilities of the district authority include implementing national laws and regulations, providing social services, maintaining public order, and managing local infrastructure. The borders of okresy may change over time, based on population and economic factors.
