What is or5?

OR5 (Orcus) is a large object located in the Kuiper Belt, a region beyond the orbit of Neptune that contains many rocky and icy objects. It was discovered in 2004 by a team of astronomers led by Michael Brown at the California Institute of Technology. OR5 is about 920 km in diameter, making it one of the largest known dwarf planets in the solar system. It has a highly elliptical orbit that takes it from 33 astronomical units (AU) at its closest approach to the Sun to 48 AU at its furthest point. OR5 takes about 246 years to complete one orbit around the Sun. Its surface is thought to be covered in a layer of frozen methane and water ice, and it may have a small moon orbiting it. Orcus was named after the Roman god of the underworld, a figure associated with death and rebirth.
