George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair, was an English writer and journalist known for his works of fiction and non-fiction that criticized totalitarianism and political oppression. He was born in Motihari, India in 1903 but grew up in England. He lived a relatively short life, dying at the age of 46 in 1950 from complications related to tuberculosis.
