Osterbrunnen, also known as Easter fountains or Easter wells, are decorated fountains or wells found in the Franconia region in Germany. The tradition of decorating these fountains dates back to the early 20th century when communities would decorate their local fountains with colorful Easter egg ornaments, garlands, and locally made handicrafts.
The tradition has since grown to become a popular tourist attraction, with communities throughout Franconia competing to create the most impressive and elaborate Osterbrunnen displays. The largest and most famous of these displays can be found in the town of Oberammergau.
The Osterbrunnen are typically decorated in early spring, just before Easter, and remain on display until the end of the Easter season. Visitors can explore these festive fountains on foot, taking in the colorful decorations and enjoying local Easter treats like chocolate eggs, Easter bread, and roasted almonds.
