Otasco was a chain of retail stores that operated in the United States from 1950 to 1986. The name Otasco is an acronym for "Otto Schwenk Auto Supply Company," named after the company's founder, Otto F. Schwenk.
Otasco stores primarily sold auto parts, hardware, home appliances, sporting goods, and a variety of other merchandise. The stores were known for their bright red signage and distinctive logo featuring a cowboy riding a horse.
In the 1970s, Otasco had over 850 stores across the southern United States. However, the company faced financial difficulties in the 1980s and ultimately filed for bankruptcy in 1986. Most Otasco stores were closed, with some locations being converted into other retail outlets.
Today, Otasco is remembered by many as a nostalgic symbol of a bygone era in retail history.
